2005 marked the 25th anniversary for school field
trips on Talapas, a 42-passenger replica of a Native American dugout
canoe.
Our trips move
your students' education outdoors where they can connect activities in math,
natural history, data gathering, and history of the development of Oregon in a
real life setting. Our activities highlight Oregon State education
standards.
Talapas becomes a
mobile classroom. Students paddle past locations that transport them back in
time as they slide past old Indian village locations and settler town sites.
The National Historic site at Willamette Falls Locks help bring perspective to
development near the end of the Oregon Trail.
Students get
personal experience in understanding river ecology by doing on-shore
experiments and activities.
These day trips
are available from April through June and September through
Mid-October.
